Udaipur also called "The city of Lakes" and the Venice of
the east, The city is a blend of water, lush green hills. There are lakes, temples, gardens and narrow lanes Their reflection in the placid waters of the Lake Pichhola is excitement that defines imagination.
Udaipur is the citadel of Mewar - a kingdom ruled by the Sisodia dynasty for 1200 Years. The foundation of the city has an interesting legend to go with it. According to it, Maharana Udai Singh, it's founder, was hunting one day when he came upon a holy man meditations on a hill overlooking the Lake Pichhola.
The hermit blessed the Maharana and directed him to build a palace at this spot which had a fertile valley watered by the stream, a lake, an agreeable altitude and an amphitheatre of low mountains. Maharana following the divine advice founded the city in 1559 A.D.
Udaipur has an extraordinary scenic beauty.
The city is famous for its lakes, beautiful lake palaces, temples, gardens and colorful festivals.

Lake Palace:
The enchanting tourist attraction of Udaipur is the Lake Palace (also
called the Jag Niwas) is an amazing island palace built by Maharana Jagat Singh II in 1754.

City Palace:
The City Palace is situated by the side of picturesque Lake Pichola.
The complex has 11 beautiful Mahals (palaces) with balconies and towers, The
view is beautiful from the palace. It has luxurious
interiors and beautiful chandeliers.

Jag Mandir:
Jag Mandir is another beautiful island palace on Lake Pichola, built by Maharaja Karan Singh in 1615 AD. The Palace has a giant stone sculpture of elephants and
cenotaphs.

Saheliyon-Ki- Bari:
The Saheliyon-ki-Bari Garden was built in the 18th century AD for ladies of the royal household to spend their time in leisure. The enchantingly beautiful Garden is famous for its lotus pool, fountains (in the shape of birds), lush green lawns, flowerbeds, and marble
pavilions. It has a wonderful view.

Jagdish Temple:
The largest temple in Udaipur which was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651 AD.
The temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu, the temple has
some of the beautiful sculpted images.

Fateh Sagar:
Fateh Sagar is a beautiful lake, built by Maharana Fateh Singh in 1678. A canal built at the beginning of the 20th century connects it to the Lake Pichola. Nehru Park, a
famous garden island with a boat-shaped café is situated in the middle of the Lake.

Eklingji :
About 22 kms from Udaipur is, Eklingj. It is a complex of 108 ancient temples,
made out of sandstone and marble. The temple, built in AD 734, of Lord
Shiva the guardian of Mewar

Ahar
Situated about 2 kms east of Udaipur is an impressive cluster of cenotaphs of the Maharanas of Mewar. There are about nineteen cenotaphs of Maharanas cremated there. The most
impressive cenotaph is that Maharana Amar Singh,
There is also the Ahar Museum near the
Cenotaphs.
