Jodhpur is the 2nd largest city after
Jaipur. There are numeours palaces, temples and other architectural monuments which has great tourist attraction. It was once capital city of the former princely state of
Mewar. Jodhpur city was founded by Suryavanshi Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D. The 10 Kms long wall which surrounds the old city of Jodhpur.
There is the Mehrangarh fort and the grand palace Umaid Bhawan on the east. There are 8 gates in the city in different directions. Temples, Elegant monuments and the gardens depicit a special grandeur.
Places to visit in Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort:
This fort was built in 1806. It is in the surrounding part of
Udaipur. It has exquisite carved panels and porches and the
decorated walls. It has nice stained glass creating beautiful
mosaics on the floors, The fort is unique in its style. The
meaning of Mehrangarh is 'Majestic Fort'. The fort
has a collection of musical instruments palanquins, furniture and cannons.
Umaid Bhavan Palace :
The Palace is built of Chhittar sandstone or pink sandstone is
also called a Chhitar palace. The Palace was built in the 20th
Century it was designed by the British Royal Architects. There
are 300 rooms and has a theatre, dinning rooms and a huge banquet
hall. There is also a Bal room. The part of the Palace has
been converted into a hotel and a part is being used for
personal use by the royal family.
Jaswant Hada :
It is a cenotaph with red sandstone stairs and chessboard
checkered courtyard. This memorial was built in the year 1899.
It has some excellent carvings.
