THE
CITY OF BIKANER
Bikaner is situated on the northern tip of the desert. During the ancient
times Bikaner was one of the major trade centers due to its strategic location on
the caravan routes that came from Africa and the West Asia. Bikaner was ruled by
the Gujar, Pratiharas, Chauhans and the Bhatti Clans. Rao, Bika established a dynasty
here that ruled for more than four centuries.
Today Bikaner is one of the major tourist attraction and is known for the best riding
camels, its lovely Havelis and colorful Market Places.

THE GRAND JUNAGARH FORT:
Built aruond 1593 AD with 37 palaces, temples and number of pavilions within the
fort is one of its kind fort in India. Anup Mahal, Karan Mahal, Rang Mahal, Chandra
Mahal are the different palaces each having their own significance. There is a nice
museum which exhibits fine paintings, miniature arts and many other rare form of
art which are from the ancient times.

THE LALGARH PALACE:
The Maharaja Ganga singh in the memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singh
built this gorgeous palace which is called the Lalgarh Palace. The Palace is designed
by Sir Swinton Jacob, The majestic red sandstone munument is thorough blend of oriental
design and interiors. The visiting hours on the palace are fixed.

GANGA GOLDEN JUBLEE MUSEUM
A huge collection of terracotta work, carpets, armoury, paintings and pottery
and artefacts of the pre-harappan civilization is of immense tourist attraction.
KARNI MATA TEMPLE ( DESHNOKE )
Dedicated to Karni Mata, an incarnation of Goddess Durga is a temple situated about
30 km from main Bikaner. The most interesting feature of the temple is that it is
filled with thousand of rats inside the temple building.
SHIV BARI TEMPLE
Built during the late 19th century by Maharaja Doongar Singhji, is a nice temple.
The temple is surrounded by high walls with some wonderfull paintings. The Temple
is of Lord Shiva.
BHANDESHWAR & SANDESHWAR TEMPLES
The 14th Century Jain Temples are the oldest monuments in Bikaner. the
temples were built by two brothers and has been named after them. It has some of
the exquisite mirror work and nice decor and has some of the wonder piece of gold
leaf paintings.
GAJNER PALACE AND THE WILDLIFE SANCTURY
About 32 Km on the Jaisalmer Road is this Palace Built on the scenic lake
is a place worth visiting. It accomodates large number of birds and waterfowls,
Ornithologists from different parts of the world visit this place.
KALIBANGAN
The remains of the pre-Harappan and the Harappan civilization was found at this
palace in Ganganer which is about 200 kms. from Bikaner. The Archeological enthusiasts
visit this place from all around the world.
KOLAYAT
It is an ancient pilgrimage place and is dedicated to Kapil Muni a saint
who propouned the Sankhya philosophy. The place is now well known as a picnic spot.
It is about 50 Kms from Bikaner and is worth visiting.
HAVELIS
The city of Bikaner is famous for its Havelis in red sandstone. The Havelis are
beautifully adorned with intricate craftmanship and carving work. The most significant
among many havelis in the region of Bikaner are those which belong to the Rampurias
and the Kotharis.
CAMEL BREEDING FARM
The Camel Research and Breeding farm is situated about 8 kms from Bikaner.
It is one of its kind Research Center in India.
CAMEL SAFARI
The city of Bikaner is famous for its Camel Sarafis, Treks and the desert
tours.
