Jaipur Foot
The Jaipurfoot was developed in 1968. The first thesis written on Jaipurfoot by Dr. Mahesh Udawat of the SMS Medical College, Jaipur and submitted in 1969 with the certification of Dr. P.K.Sethi, the Professor and Head of the Orthopaedics Department, SMS Medical College, Jaipur.
Master Ramchandra Sharma, working further with Dr. P.K.Sethi, Dr.S.C.Kasliwal, Dr. Mahesh Udawat and some other Doctors refined and improved the design to eventually create, what is known as JAIPURFOOT.

The Jaipur Artificial Limb has two parts - the foot piece and the socket with or without joint depending on whether the limb needed was Below-Knee or Above-Knee. The development of foot part has already been brought-out above. For the socket part, the Jaipur Limb initially replaced the heavy wood sockets with light weight and hand crafted Alluminium sockets. Around 1985, the Alluminium sockets were replaced by sockets made out of the high- density polyethylene (HDPE), an excellent bio-inert and even lighter material. It is also a durable material. This was an innovation over the comparative method of using polymer sheets and resins. This system of socket fitting enables very rapid fitting. It ensures a very close stump- socket interface.
