DELHI (THE CAPITAL OF INDIA)

Delhi is the Capital City of India. It has all the facilities available for tourists.
It is one of the growing cities in the world. Tourists and Business
Travelers visit Delhi frequently for their own reasons.
Delhi has a some interesting places to visit.
Some of such attractions are - Red Fort of Delhi, The India Gate, The Different Ghats of Delhi, The Craft Museum, The Parliament House, National Science Center, The Dolls Museum, Qutab
Minar, The Dara Shikoh Library, Markets of the present day delhi and Old Delhi
India Gate
A 42m high stone arch of triumph located on the Rajpath,
the road which leads to the Raj Bhavan. India Gate has the names of the 85,000 Indian Army Soldiers
who died in the campaigns of WW1, the North-West Frontiers operations and the 1919 Afghan Fiasco. Below the arch is the memorial to the unknown soldier.
There is lots of greenery arround the India Gate.
Old Delhi -
Very little is left of the Old City of Shahjahanabad which was the capital of the Mughal
ruler Shah Jahan. The wall city has different gates like the Kashmiri Gate, Turkman
Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Delhi gate. Very near to Delhi Gate is Feroz Shah
Kotla, and the Ashokan Pillar
Red Fort - A Red Sand stone architectured fort is 3 kms in perimeter with the
high walls. there are palaces inside. River Yamuna use to
flow by the side of this fort in those days. But now the
river flow has shifted a killometer away from the
fort.There are light and sound shows in the evening.
The fort has a great historical significance and is worth
visiting.
The Ghats -
Along the banks of Jamuna are located the places were the leaders and freedom fighters of India were cremated.
Numerous Ghats were made in their memory.
Jantar Mantar - Few minutes walk from Connaught Place is is a strange collection of solomon coloured structures. These were built by Maharaja Jai Singh and is actually an observatory. Though not as large as its compatriot in Jaipur Jantar Mantar at Delhi also an attraction for the tourists. The astonishing part of these observatories is that they can calculate many astronomical movements very accurately.
Safdarjung Tomb - Adjacent to the Safdarjang
airport in delhi is the Safdarjang tomb, built by the Nawab of Avadh for his father.A
great piece of architecture and has a significant
historical importance.
Qutab Minar - Qutbuddin built the Qutab Minar as a victory tower
in 1199. The base of the minaret is 14.32 mtrs and
it gradually tapers to 2.75 mtrs. The tower has a height of 72.5
mtrs. It
is the tallest ancient stone tower in India. Qutab
minar was completed by the Sultan's successor and his
son-in-law named Iltutmish.
The Gardens of Delhi - Delhi Development Authority is trying best to
maintain for the residents of Delhi with greenery by construction
different parks and gardens which have their own
attraction.
Some of the well known gardens of Delhi are:
Moghul Gardens - Within the premises of the President
house is this beautiful garden, it is normaly not open for
public but only during the spring seasons of February and
March during which the garden is in full bloom, people are allowed
inside to get the glimpse of the beautiful garden. There
are some rare flower plants and fountains
Rose Garden - National Rose Garden is located
at Chanakyapuri. There are some rare imported rose variety.
During December / January is an ideal period for the
visitors as the flowers are in full bloom during that
period.
Lodhi Garden -Around the tombs of Sayid and Lodhi
rulers is this garden called the Lodhi Garden, it
is is very well planned. There are artificial water
streams. The Tombs of the rulers has its own architectural
beauty.
